" YES THIS IS A REAL 442 AS VIN NUMBER 344871R...... WILL PROVE. ONE OF ONLY 6,285 HARDTOP 442'S MADE IN 1971. IT HAS THE ORIGINAL 3.08 REAR END OPTION G90 AND NO IT IS NOT POSI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!DUE TO THE FREQUENT COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS CAR NOT BEING A POSI FROM OLDS GUYS AS WELL AS NON OLDS GUYS, IVE RESEARCHED AND DISCOVERED THAT POSI TRACTION REARENDS WERE NEVER STANDARD EQUIPMENT ON REGULAR 442'S AT ANY POINT FROM 68-71 (442 WAS AN OPTION ON THE CUTLASS/F85 FROM 64-67 AND AGAIN IN 72). I THINK THE POSI WAS REQUIRED ON THE W-30. SO THIS 71 442 HAS OPTION G90 OPEN AXLE GEARED AT 3.08. Two Burnouts were recorded on different days Sept 1 and Sept 2,2007 and presented here out of sequence as yesterdays black mark is evident from the day before. "

My '69 Delta 88 would do this for as long as I wanted it to. I can't remember the rear end gearing, but it was pretty high, like a 3.88 or something like that. One time on wet pavement and up two steep hills, I spun the non-drive side for half a mile. I sure miss that car. I sold it to the trooper who wrote me a speeding ticket, so he could restore his '69 Delta convertable. It was relatively straight and had a perfect black two door coupe interior.

My first car was 71 442 and it was also a 3.08 non posi car from the factory. I don't have the car anymore, now have a 70 442 convertible, but I have still have a copy of my ole 71 442s buildsheet that proves that it came from the factory with that 3.08 non posi rear. so any one who thinks they could not come this way is just wrong. Great car man. I love your vids keep up the good work.

I've got a 1969 Cutlass Supreme Ragtop. Too bad its not a 442 but I have a 455 rocket so I can make it one.. Only not numbers matching, sucks.

68-71 442's are separate models from the Cutlass. 71 has 455 engine standard and VIN # separates it from Cutlass. It wasnt until 72 that 442 was again an option on the Cutlass as 442 was from 64-67. If your 70 442 is a posi then it probably has a G80 axle which was an option. G92 was the standard axle for 70 442's which is not a posi. Both standard 70 axles are geared 3.42 for 70.
